Construction Works of the Altanbulag Border Checkpoint Successfully Commissioned to the State Committee

Moncon Construction LLC, a company dedicated to elevating Mongolia’s construction sector to international standards, has successfully completed and officially handed over the construction works of the “Altanbulag Border Checkpoint Expansion and Modernization Project” to the State Commission. The project was commissioned by the Government of Mongolia and financed by the Asian Development Bank and was implemented from August 2020 to July 2025 with a team of 135 personnel.

The project covers a total area of 7.73 hectares and comprises 34 buildings and facilities, divided into the following primary components:

  • Cargo Transport Section: 18 buildings over 3.76 hectares
  • Passenger Transport Section: 19 buildings over 3.37 hectares
  • Infrastructure Facilities: 5 buildings
  • Outdoor Landscaping: 6,900 m²

Within the scope of external utility infrastructure, the following systems were constructed: 

  • Sewer pipeline: 1,379 meters
  • Clean water supply pipeline: 1,085 meters
  • District heating pipeline: 1,684 meters
  • Outdoor electrical network: 6,277 meters of 0.4 kV cable and 750 meters of 6 kV cable
  • Solar power station: 66 kW capacity

The first phase of the project was commissioned in September 2023, and the final stage was completed and handed over in June 2025. As a result, the operational capacity of the Altanbulag border checkpoint has been significantly enhanced: 

  • Passenger throughput is expected to triple 
  • The number of freight and passenger vehicles passing through the checkpoint is expected to quadruple 
  • Border crossing processes have become more efficient, enabling faster and more convenient service delivery for citizens
